The Image of yourself in your mind is vastly different than that which you see in the mirror.
For many, we believe the world sees us the way we see ourselves when we look in the mirror.
That image we see looking back at us, is something we believe, portrays the person we really are.
However, our self-image in our mind is what the world really sees.
Back in the 1960's Dr. Maxwell Maltz, a cosmetic surgeon came out with a book called Psycho-Cybernetics.*(#ad)
From years of research performing cosmetic surgery on many patients, he realized that not everyone who had their physical appearance altered, had a different perception of themselves after the surgery was performed.
For some, their confidence and how they acted changed once they had a certain procedure done.
For others, even though the surgeries were successful and created significant physical results, he noticed they did not perceive any change. (Even though the cosmetic surgery was a success)
Based on his findings he theorized that everyone has a few images that they operate with. Those in the image of the mirror and those we hold inside ... and think no one sees. However as stated, it is quite contrary, the reality is everyone notices it.
The image of yourself that you hold in your mind controls everything that you do.
This self-image psychology dictates everything you do every day.
From what type of job you do, how much money you make, your work ethic, the people you associate with, and even what you see your self-worth as.
Yet we all have the ability to choose how we see ourselves, but most do not make the effort to change.
Sometimes a traumatic experience forces us to change, but why wait for something of that nature, to start creating a new image of yourself.
Every other creature that God created is at home in its environment. From animals to birds to fish to even insects, they all blend into their environment and do not have the capability to change.
You and I, on the other hand, have the ability to dream, create, and change everything that is in our lives through self-image psychology.
But in order to do this, one must have that picture in their mind and believe that they can achieve it.
Because the image of yourself that you hold in your mind has such a dominating presence, often we feel that it cannot be changed ... that it just is ... that's 'just who I am'.
These dominating images have controlled how we think for so long - we accept it as fact, and we cannot do anything about it.
As I have heard Bob Proctor mention many times, 'We have a little picture of ourselves - We are walking around as 'extras' in our own movie' ... (instead of being the star).
For some, their self-image has created a feeling of complacency and low self-esteem. Giving into a normal routine, or ordinary life that one seems to coast through till death.
But the truth of the matter is, that we all have the God-given talent and abilities to create and be so much more than we currently have or see ourselves as.
The key is to start seeing yourself in the way that you really want to be.
Taking the time to write it down, not just thinking about it, can help you really think about who you want to become. The more specific you can be will help create a more vivid image that you impress in your mind and on your subconscious.
The new image that you hold of yourself in your mind will start changing your outer world and start creating the life that you truly want to live.
When you write your new self down on paper and read it to yourself, again and again daily, your old self-image will no longer control or dominate the new you.
Opening up a beautiful new world that unfolds itself on a daily basis.
A new world that makes you excited to start every day for the rest of your life.
But in order to create this new world, you have to make the decision to start ...grab a pen and a piece of paper now, and tomorrow will be the start of a brand new world.
As always my very best to you, for continued success and happiness in business and in life.
